SN2011fe in Messier 101
======================

These directories contain data on the supernova SN2011fe that occurred in 
M101 and was discovered by Palomar Transient Factory on August 24, 2011.  As a
Type Ia found very early after the event, it was the brightest one seen in 
30 years at its peak.


We observed it at Moore Observatory on August 26, 27, and September 2 with the
RC24 telescope.  The image data postprocessed with an old dark reference frame
and with coordinates added are in the dated directories.  Images were taken in
the Sloan r and g filters with 200 second exposures.

combining the images from the first two nights separately in "g" and "r"
filters.  These were then cleaned of bad pixels by a 2-pixel median, and
combined in an RGB image using the "g" filter for both blue and green with 
different balance to achieve a simulation of a visual appearance. Two versions
are available: a linear one and a square root stretch to show the fainter
portions of the spiral arms.  The total equivalent exposure is 6400 seconds.

The combined images have some cosmetic defects but show the galaxy and its
supernova well.
